the email I just sent to HonestGirlScouts.com, aka the Boy Scouts of Girl Scouting

To Whom it Concerns,

I am appalled at the intentions behind your website. I am a Lifetime Girl Scout member and have been involved in Scouting for close to 20 years, and I have never once encountered “Girl Scouts” who so flagrantly ignored core aspects of the Girl Scout Law.  Your conservative political agenda goes against the most important key parts of the Girl Scout mission. Denying sexual education to young women who may not get it anywhere else in abstinence-only school districts is not promoting honesty; it promotes misinformation and exposes young women to dangerous rumours and shady internet sources about sexuality and reproduction. Don’t want your Girl Scout to learn about sex ed? Remove them from the program, but do not deny other Scouts across the world access to valuable information that enables them to be comfortable and well-informed about their bodies. Opposing transgendered Girl Scouts, who already have such a strong stigma against them in mainstream culture, is NOT respecting others. Transgendered children do not pose any threat to others simply by being transgendered, and members of this “movement” would do well to recall that being considerate and caring as the Law calls for is not achieved through bigotry and hatred. Girl Scouts distinguishes itself from Boy Scouts by being far more inclusive and accepting than the homophobia present in the BSA, and you are giving all Girl Scouts who uphold the Girl Scout Law a bad name. Please remember that Girl Scouts is an international organization, and works to meet the needs of all Girl Scouts and Girl Guides, not simply the ones being raised to hate that which they do not understand.

Thank you for your time.
